Recap: Shawnee Indians vs. St. John's Bluejays
Even though the St. John's Bluejays scored an imposing 58 points on Saturday, the Shawnee Indians still came out on top. Shawnee walked away with a 65-58 victory over St. John's. That's two games straight that Shawnee has won by exactly seven points.
Shawnee found their leader in underclassman Beckett Bertke, who scored 35 points along with seven rebounds. The match was Bertke's 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tate Bender, who scored 12 points.
Shawnee is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for St. John's, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 8-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Shawnee and Defiance will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Defiance will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 382nd, while Shawnee is ranked 185th). As for St. John's, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Fort Recovery at 7:30 p.m. Fort Recovery is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
