Basketball Recap: St. Martin Comes Up Short

St. Martin lost against Gulfport back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The St. Martin Yellow Jackets fell 52-45 to the Gulfport Admirals. While losing is never fun, the Yellow Jackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while the Admirals are ranked eighth).

Despite the loss, St. Martin still got an impressive performance from Jaxon Walker, who went 6 of 15 on his way to 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lleyton Wilson, who posted five points along with six boards and four blocks.

St. Martin is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-8. As for Gulfport, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 18-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Martin will venture away from home to face off against Ocean Springs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Gulfport, they will head out to take on Harrison Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Harrison Central: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Gulfport has snatched up five consecutive wins on the road.
