Zuni extended their winning streak to three games thanks to a huge performance from Ty'Shawn Nieto. The Zuni Thunderbirds came out on top against the Newcomb Skyhawks by a score of 49-41 on Wednesday which was due in part to Nieto, who dropped a double-double with 24 points and 16 boards. That's the most points he has posted since back in December of 2024.

The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Simplicio, who put up eight points in addition to ten rebounds and three steals. Zuni is 9-3 when Simplicio posts ten or more boards, but 5-8 otherwise.

Several Skyhawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Savier Thomas, who to rack up 14 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Kyler Notah, who had 14 points.

Zuni's win bumped their record up to 14-11. As for Newcomb, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 14 of their last 15 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-19 record this season.

Zuni wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, an 80-55 loss against Tohatchi on the 21st. As for Newcomb, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 118-28 defeat against Navajo Prep on the 21st.
