Softball Game Preview: North Clay/Clay City vs. Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg

North Clay/Clay City will challenge Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Clay/Clay City has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with eight straight defeats, while Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg will come in with five straight wins.

North Clay/Clay City made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Dieterich, but they still couldn't quite topple them. North Clay/Clay City fell just short of Dieterich by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, while Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Brownstown/St. Elmo. Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg put the hurt on Brownstown/St. Elmo with a sharp 18-0 victory. Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by seven runs or more this season.

Kendra Hayes and Samantha Hayes made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Hayes tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Samantha pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Hayes went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, while Samantha went 1-for-2 with three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cameron Carey, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Alaira Friese, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matches.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg's win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for North Clay/Clay City, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.
