Basketball Recap: Christian Gayle's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Waterford over Oakdale

Waterford played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Oakdale Mustangs an easy 55-32 win. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1253rd, while the Mustangs are ranked 407th).

Waterford lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Christian Gayle, who posted 15 points. Izaiah Sanchez was another key player, putting up ten points.

Waterford's defeat dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Oakdale, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

After both having extra time off, Waterford and Sierra Ridge Academy/ROP will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025.
