Basketball Recap: Jamaury Taylor Key Part of a Team Effort in Hawks Win

Triton hadn't done well against Westover recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Triton Hawks walked away with a 71-61 victory over the Westover Wolverines. This was a revenge game for the Hawks: when they faced off against the Wolverines back in December of 2024, they had to take a 68-65 loss.

Triton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jamaury Taylor led the charge by going 8 of 11 to rack up 19 points. What's more, Taylor also posted a 73% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ro'Mello Pegues, who went 8 for 12 en route to 21 points.

Westover's loss came despite strong showings from Jaeden Jones and DeMarious Hall. Jones went 7 of 11 on his way to 18 points, while Hall went 7 for 16 to rack up 20 points. The matchup was Jones' fourth in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shawn Clark, who went 5 of 10 en route to 10 points.

Triton has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.3 points over those games. As for Westover, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-8 record this season.
