West Union took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Kossuth Aggies. For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 8-6 win the Aggies walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Grant Martin made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Martin wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jaxon Herod, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Kossuth's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 0-2.
