Baseball Game Preview: Huntland Hornets vs. Moore County Raiders

Huntland is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Monday. They are taking a road trip to challenge the Moore County Raiders at 4:30 p.m. Huntland has now lost eight straight dating back to last season, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 9.

Last Friday, Huntland didn't have quite enough to beat Cornersville and fell 3-2.

Chandler Banks was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.

Banks wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Grant Jernigan, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Moore County can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over Culleoka.

Peyton Martin was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Morey, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4.

Huntland's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Moore County, their record is now 3-4.

Huntland couldn't quite get it done against Moore County in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-2. Can Huntland avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
