The Columbian Tornadoes will take on the Calvert Senecas at 1:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Columbian barely beat Defiance the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tornadoes' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 6-0 shutout on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tornadoes.

Isaiah Tilse made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Columbian is 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-11 otherwise. Tilse was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Jayce Arias and Jaxon Little did most of the damage at the plate: Arias went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI, while Little went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Little has become a key player for Columbian: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-12 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Calvert had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it ten on Friday. They put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 13-0 win. Considering the Senecas have won 14 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Like Columbian, Calvert also got a great game from a two-way player: Blake Coleman. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Coleman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Coleman wasn't the only one making solid contact as nine players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was AJ Shoemaker, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Shoemaker has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.

Calvert kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive matches.

Calvert's victory was their 13th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Columbian, their victory bumped their record up to 10-13.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Columbian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Calvert struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Columbian suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Calvert in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Tornadoes have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
