Basketball Recap: First Coast Christian Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact First Coast Christian can now relate to. They were dealt a 58-29 loss at the hands of the St. Johns Country Day Spartans on Tuesday. The Knights' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

First Coast Christian's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Faith Whidden, who posted 14 points. Whidden continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of DJ Pickard, who earned eight points.

Kendall Proffitt continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for St. Johns Country Day, going 16 of 29 on her way to 40 points along with six steals and five assists. Proffitt's evening made it nine games in a row in which she has scored at least 23 points. Another player making a difference was Nadia Al-Awady, who scored six points in addition to ten boards and four steals.

First Coast Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 7-13. As for St. Johns Country Day, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.

First Coast Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. Johns Country Day, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 44-42 win against Florida School for the Deaf & Blind on the 6th.
