The Boone Braves are taking a road trip to take on the Bishop Moore Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Boone is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Boone didn't have quite enough to beat Horizon and fell 6-5. The Braves have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Boone got a good showing from Samantha Johnson, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Johnson has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kalyn Woods made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Sarai Collazo, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Bishop Moore came into Monday's game having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over Lake Nona on Monday.
Riley Johnson made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Johnson was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Ariana Lara was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Gia Gomez was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Bishop Moore was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March.
Bishop Moore's record now sits at 10-8. As for Boone, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Boone hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Bishop Moore struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Boone got the 'W' when the teams last played back in February of 2024 against Bishop Moore by a conclusive 12-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Braves since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
