Basketball Recap: Elida Takes a Loss

Elida was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 67-48 bruising from the Gateway Christian Warriors. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Elida saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Hayden Wolf posted 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wolf has scored all season.

Gateway Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Victor Oaxaca, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Oaxaca a new career-high in steals (four). Zack McCracken was another key player, going 6 for 12 en route to 15 points and three blocks.

Elida's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Gateway Christian, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-5.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Grady the next time they take the court. Elida will head out to face Grady at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Gateway Christian will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
