Basketball Game Preview: Vernon Hills Cougars vs. Maine West Warriors

Vernon Hills and Maine West are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2019, but not for long. The Vernon Hills Cougars will square off against the Maine West Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Vernon Hills is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.

Last Friday, Vernon Hills got the win against Niles North by a conclusive 49-25. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 197th, while the Vikings are ranked 459th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Maine West came up short against Highland Park on Friday and fell 41-31. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Vernon Hills' win bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Maine West, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-11.

Vernon Hills didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Maine West when the teams last played back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 51-47 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Vernon Hills since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
