Recap: Independent Panthers vs. Cheney Cardinals

It was a good run, but the Independent Panthers unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 75-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cheney. While losing is never fun, Independent can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while Cheney is ranked 26th).

Independent's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sir Ryan Dennis, who scored 15 points along with six assists. Another player making a difference was Luke Henderson, who scored 16 points along with four steals.

Independent's loss dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Cheney, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Independent won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Garden Plain at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. Independent is facing Garden Plain at the right time seeing as Garden Plain is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Cheney, they will play host again and welcome Trinity Academy, where tip off is scheduled for TBD on Friday. Cheney has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 276 points over their last four games.
