Basketball Recap: Cedar Comes Up Short

Cedar and Timpanogos squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Cedar had to settle for second. They took a blow against the Timpanogos Timberwolves, falling 79-52. While losing is never fun, the Reds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while the Timberwolves are ranked 20th).

Cedar's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taylor Davis, who almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds. Davis has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more boards the last nine times he's played. Another player making a difference was Hayden Kee, who went 5-for-10 to rack up 15 points.

Leading Timpanogos to victory were Cooper Harris and Jaxen Mccuistion. Harris went 6-for-11 on his way to 18 points and four steals, while Mccuistion went 6-for-11 en route to 19 points. Those four steals gave Harris a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Johnson, who went 5-for-7 to rack up 14 points and five rebounds.

Cedar has been struggling recently as they've lost 15 of their last 16 games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 3-21 record this season. As for Timpanogos, their victory bumped their record up to 16-8.

Cedar does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Timpanogos, they will take on Provo at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Timpanogos is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60 points per game this season.
