Basketball Recap: Gibson Southern Sets Scoring Season-High Against Princeton

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gibson Southern). They took down the Princeton Tigers 78-64 on Friday. The Titans have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Tigers, too.

Leading Gibson Southern to victory were Paige Schnaus and Avery Paridaen. Schnaus dropped a double-double with 24 points and 18 boards, while Paridaen shot 69% from the field en route to 24 points and eight rebounds. The matchup was Schnaus' third in a row with at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Spindler, who posted eight points.

Gibson Southern was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. They racked up nine more assists than Princeton's also-impressive total of 12.

Ailie Taylor and Alexis Kermode certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Taylor went 8-for-18 on her way to 23 points and six assists, while Kermode shot 45% from the field to rack up 14 points and six rebounds. Taylor is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in each of the last six games she's played dating back to last season. Alivia Mckee was another key player, putting up eight points.

The win was the fourth in a row for Gibson Southern, bringing their record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points over those games. As for Princeton, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-2.

Looking ahead, Gibson Southern will square off against Silver Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Princeton, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 65-62 win against Evansville Central on the 22nd.
