Baseball Game Preview: Hueneme Vikings vs. Carpinteria Warriors

Hueneme is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Wednesday. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Carpinteria Warriors at 3:30 p.m. Carpinteria took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Hueneme, who comes in off a win.

Hueneme barely beat Skyline the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Hueneme put the hurt on Skyline with a sharp 14-5 win on Saturday. 14 seems to be a good number for the Vikings as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Aureliano Perez made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was even better at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Christian Solis, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Hueneme always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Skyline only posted an OBP of .303.

Meanwhile, Carpinteria came up short against Fillmore on Monday and fell 5-2. The contest marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Carpinteria's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11.3 runs. As for Hueneme, their win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-5.

Hueneme came out on top in a nail-biter against Carpinteria in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Will Hueneme repeat their success, or does Carpinteria have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
