Softball Recap: Centennial Gets the Win

Centennial proved they can win big last Saturday (they won by 15) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs. That's more bragging rights for the Chargers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Zoe Goodreau spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 17 Ks. Those 17 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maiyah Flemons, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Brylie Klaudt, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.

The win got Centennial back to even at 3-3. As for Mahomet-Seymour, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Centennial will square off against Villa Grove at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chargers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Devils have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for Mahomet-Seymour, they will challenge Normal University at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
