Softball Recap: Nokomis Drops Season-High Score on Riverton

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Nokomis). They blew past the Riverton Hawks 19-3 on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Redskins considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Cloey Dirks made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Nokomis got a massive performance out of Grace DeWerff, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave DeWerff a new career-high. Faith Morrison was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Nokomis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .532. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Riverton only posted an OBP of .385.

Nokomis' win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-10. As for Riverton, their defeat was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nokomis will head out to challenge Taylorville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Redskins are facing the Tornadoes at the right time seeing as the Tornadoes are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Riverton, they will square off against Midwest Central at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
