Carbondale is 8-1 against Murphysboro since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Terriers will be playing at home against the Red Devils at 4:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Carbondale fell victim to Red Bud and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Musketeers, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Terriers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, Murphysboro fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Centralia on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Orphans by a score of 5-4.

Macie Cunningham was cooking despite her team's loss, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases and one run.

Carbondale has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season. As for Murphysboro, they dropped their record down to 7-19 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Carbondale skirted past Murphysboro 2-1 when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Will the Terriers repeat their success, or do the Red Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
