Softball Recap: Van Vleck Snags Sixth Victory in Last Seven Games

With a playoff win on the line, Van Vleck rose to the challenge on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Trinity Tigers as they made off with a 14-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Leopards, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Lakyn Matchett made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Kylie Sazera was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Alexa Zuniga, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Van Vleck is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Trinity, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-13.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Van Vleck beat the Tigers by a score of 7-0 on Friday.
