Preview: Centennial Broncos vs. Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines
Centennial is 9-1 against Wilber-Clatonia since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Centennial Broncos will head out on the road to square off against the Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. Centennial is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Last Saturday, Centennial came up short against Malcolm and fell 61-52. Centennial was down 50-30 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite the loss, Centennial had strong showings from Alex Hirschfeld, who scored 24 points, and Devin Slawnyk, who scored 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hirschfeld has scored all season.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Wilber-Clatonia, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 54-40 loss to Auburn on Monday. While losing is never fun, Wilber-Clatonia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while Auburn is ranked eighth).
Centennial has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-9 record this season. As for Wilber-Clatonia, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-11.
Centennial didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Wilber-Clatonia when the teams last played back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 43-38 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Wilber-Clatonia's Ashton Pulliam, who scored 17 points. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Centennial to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
