Basketball Recap: Westfall Comes Up Short

Westfall lost against Fisher Catholic back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The contest between the Mustangs and the Irish didn't end well, with the Mustangs falling 59-42. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 501st, while the Irish are ranked 209th).

Despite the defeat, Westfall saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Makenzie Cook shot 46% from the field en route to 18 points and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for Cook. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Moehl, who posted six points in addition to five boards and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Westfall and nudges their season record down to 2-4. As for Fisher Catholic, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.

Westfall didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-37 victory against Paint Valley on the 18th. Fisher Catholic will take on Berne Union in a holiday battle at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
