Softball Game Preview: Oconto Falls Panthers vs. Luxemburg-Casco Spartans

Oconto Falls is 0-10 against Luxemburg-Casco since April of 2017 but things could change on Monday. The Panthers will welcome the Spartans at 4:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Oconto Falls sitting on three straight wins and Luxemburg-Casco on four.

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Oconto Falls and Little Chute, and Oconto Falls kept the tradition alive. The Panthers came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 7-3 on Tuesday.

Randi Metzler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.7 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Oconto Falls' victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ava Salscheider, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Addy Leja was another, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs.

Oconto Falls hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Luxemburg-Casco owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 win over Seymour.

Luxemburg-Casco pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Oconto Falls, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.
