Baseball Recap: Whitehaven Victorious

The Whitehaven Tigers had just enough and edged out the Overton Wolverines 5-4 on Wednesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.

Jaylon Dodson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Whitehaven is 3-1-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-4 otherwise. Dodson was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, Andrew Robinson was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Whitehaven: the team is 3-0-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-5 otherwise. Cordae Payne also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Whitehaven pushed their record up to 5-5-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Overton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-6-1.

Coming up, Whitehaven will take on First Assembly Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers are facing the Crusaders at the right time seeing as the Crusaders are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Overton, they will be playing at home against Sheffield at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed nine runs per game on average), something the Wolverines will no doubt try to take advantage of.
