Baseball Recap: Moreno Valley Triumphs

Moreno Valley proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by eight) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the JW North Huskies 6-4. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-2 last Tuesday.

J. Chavez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on E. Zendejas, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was D. McCauley, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Moreno Valley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive games.

Moreno Valley has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. As for JW North, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-12-1.

Coming up, Moreno Valley will face off against Redlands East Valley at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Vikings 3.2, the Wildcats 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for JW North, they will square off against El Modena at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Vanguards will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Huskies surely won't give up without a fight.
