Softball Recap: Clay Continues Home Dominance on Monday

There's no place like home for Clay, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. Everything went their way against the Bradford Tornadoes on Monday as they made off with an 11-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won seven contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Clay got a great performance from Sadie Russo as she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Russo has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kaelye Rouw, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Hailey Hackett, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Clay was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .306 or higher in seven consecutive matchups.

Clay's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Bradford, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clay will head out to challenge Fleming Island at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Bradford, they will venture away from home to face off against Eastside at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
