Softball Game Preview: Mercy Tigers vs. Southington Blue Knights

The Mercy Tigers are taking a road trip to square off against the Southington Blue Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Mercy's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over Sheehan. The win was nothing new for the Tigers as they're now sitting on six straight.

Meanwhile, Southington made easy work of Maloney on Thursday and carried off a 14-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Blue Knights in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won nine in a row.

Angie Insogna and Shelby Jordan were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Insogna tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Jordan tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Insogna has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. At bat, Insogna went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double, while Jordan went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that Insogna has hit this season.

In other batting news, Aubrey Perugini was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Reece Archer, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3.

Southington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maloney only posted an OBP of .062.

Mercy pushed their record up to 13-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Southington, their record now sits at 11-3.
