 Herrin was not able to break out of their rough patch  on Friday as the team picked up their 12th straight  loss. They fell  13-10 to the Carterville Lions. Both teams can probably skip cardio this week after making that many trips around the bases.
  LEX GARNER made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and  scored two  runs while going 2-for-2.  HARPER SHOEMAKER was another key contributor,  scoring a  run and  stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
 Even though they lost, Herrin was hitting in the alleys and  finished the game with four  doubles. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carterville only hit a.
 On Carterville's side,  Logan Ingle made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound,   striking out seven batters over  four innings while giving up  four earned  (and one unearned) runs off   six  hits (and only one walk). Ingle was also big at the plate,  scoring two  runs while going 4-for-5.
 In other batting news,  Drew Barrington was  incredible,  scoring two  runs and  stealing a base while  getting on base  in all five of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was  Payton VanHorn, who  scored two  runs and  stole a base while going 2-for-3.
 Herrin's defeat dropped their record down to 1-14-1. As for Carterville, the  win was  the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-6.
 Herrin will head out on the road to  challenge  Murphysboro at 4:30  p.m.  on Monday. Murphysboro is coming into the  match with five straight  victories at home,  so Herrin will have to stop a  squad with plenty of momentum. Carterville will take on Harrisburg at 4:30  p.m.  on Tuesday.
