Softball Game Preview: Jay County Patriots vs. Delta Eagles

The Jay County Patriots will challenge the Delta Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Jay County's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last eight contests.

Jay County is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Richmond 25-3 on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Red Devils: they've now won five in a row.

Jay County got a massive performance out of Morgan Missicano, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Missicano a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Brown, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with five runs, two RBI, and one double.

Jay County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .755. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Delta fell victim to New Palestine and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 10-0 to the Dragons. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Eagles' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Jay County's win bumped their record up to 19-2. As for Delta, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-15.

Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Jay County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .453. However, it's not like Delta struggles in that department as they've averaged .343. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Everything went Jay County's way against Delta in their previous matchup back in April, as Jay County made off with a 16-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
