Baseball Game Preview: New Castle Trojans vs. Connersville Spartans

The New Castle Trojans will venture away from home to take on the Connersville Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. New Castle is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.

On Thursday, New Castle came up short against Shelbyville and fell 6-2.

New Castle saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Arrin Murray, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Connersville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of South Dearborn. That's two games in a row now that the Spartans have lost by just one run.

Aaron Kidd was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave him a new career-low. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Parker Flanigan was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Connersville's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-2 (and 5-10 when he doesn't). Kolton DeBoard was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

New Castle's defeat dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Connersville, they now have a losing record of 11-12.
