Football Game Preview: Bonanza Bengals vs. Cheyenne Desert Shields

The Bonanza Bengals will head out to challenge the Cheyenne Desert Shields at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many points in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Bonanza is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Pinecrest Academy Cadence, who was ranked eighth at the time (Bonanza was ranked 24th). Bonanza and Pinecrest Academy Cadence were almost perfectly matched up on Tuesday, but Bonanza suffered a 13-12 loss. The Bengals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Although Bonanza took the loss, they still got scores from Reagan Coupe and Emily Hodsdon.

Bonanza didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Rylee Hogue and Jayla Lopez.

Meanwhile, Cheyenne was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were outmatched by Sierra Vista and fell 28-0.

Bonanza now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Cheyenne, their loss dropped their record down to 1-15.

Everything came up roses for Bonanza against Cheyenne in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as the squad secured a 42-6 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bonanza since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
