Basketball Game Preview: Caldwell Redskins vs. Shadyside Tigers

Caldwell and Shadyside are an even 3-3 against one another since December of 2016, but not for long. The Caldwell Redskins will square off against the Shadyside Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Caldwell has now lost ten straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since December 4.

Last Thursday, Caldwell came up short against Shenandoah and fell 54-47. While losing is never fun, the Redskins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 569th, while the Zeps are ranked 233rd).

Despite the defeat, Caldwell had strong showings from Breighlee Moracco, who went 5 for 8 on her way to 13 points and four steals, and Lyla Lowe, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 boards. That's the most points Lowe has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Franklin, who posted 12 points.

Even though they lost, Caldwell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 23-23 at halftime, Shadyside was not quite Catholic Central's equal in the second half on Monday. They fell 51-44 to the Crusaders. The Tigers have struggled against the Crusaders recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Caldwell's record is now 3-12. As for Shadyside, their record now sits at 3-13.

Everything came up roses for Caldwell against Shadyside in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 73-34 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Caldwell since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
