Baseball Recap: Legion Collegiate Academy Wins Going Away Against Ashley Ridge

Legion Collegiate Academy barely beat Ashley Ridge the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Legion Collegiate Academy Lancers blew past the Ashley Ridge Swamp Foxes 14-7 on Saturday. That's more bragging rights for the Lancers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Legion Collegiate Academy got a great performance from Griffin McKain as he struck out nine batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, McKain gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, Hudson Riordan and Jackson Gordon did most of the damage at the plate: Riordan went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double, while Gordon scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Those four runs gave Gordon a new career-high. Collin Tuttle was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Legion Collegiate Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Legion Collegiate Academy now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Ashley Ridge, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Legion Collegiate Academy will challenge West Ashley at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. As for Ashley Ridge, they will take on Fountain Inn at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
