Baseball Recap: Highland Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game, Highland was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They walked away with an 8-5 win over the Mountain View Mavericks. The game was the first time the Rams have beaten the Mavericks on their field since May 19, 2016.

Kai Jones made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Cannon Eddie was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Another player making a difference was Marshall Glenn, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

Highland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Highland has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. Mountain View's record now sits at 7-4.

Highland and Mountain View will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. Highland will take on rival Madison at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Mountain View is set to square off against their familiar foe Meridian at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
