Basketball Recap: Thomas Jefferson Comes Up Short

Thomas Jefferson was the 63-32 winner over Kent Denver when they last played one another back in January of 2018, but their luck changed this time around. The Thomas Jefferson Spartans were outmatched by the Kent Denver Sun Devils and fell 68-34. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-15.

When it comes to explaining why Thomas Jefferson lost on Thursday, don't look at Leyna McClinon. Despite the final result, she posted 12 points and five steals. McClinon is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Kent Denver's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Caroline Phillips, who went 6 of 13 on her way to 16 points and four steals. That's the most points Phillips has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kara Fitzpatrick, who went 5 of 7 on her way to 11 points and five rebounds.

Thomas Jefferson's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Kent Denver, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-5.

After both having extra time off, Thomas Jefferson and Littleton will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another at 5:30 p.m. on January 8th. As for Kent Denver, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Delta at 3:00 p.m. on January 3rd.
