St. Maries had lost seven games straight , but after bumping their record up to 3-12 on Saturday that streak is in the rearview. They skirted past the Kellogg Wildcats 8-6. The Lumberjacks have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Wildcats, too.

Kris Brusseau made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Peyton Lingo was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for St. Maries: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Amado Stewert, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
As for Kellogg, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12. On the bright side, the six- run performance marked their highest-scoring matchup to date.
Like St. Maries, Kellogg also got a great game from a two-way player: Kaden Keller. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Keller has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Alex Cassidy made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Robert Liddicoat also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
St. Maries will have a chance to go back-to-back against Kellogg: the pair will be back at it again later today.
