Baseball Recap: St. Michael-Albertville Has No Trouble Against Sartell-St. Stephen

St. Michael-Albertville barely beat Sartell-St. Stephen the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Knights put the hurt on the Sabres with a sharp 10-1 win on Thursday. The contest marked the Knights' most dominant victory of the season.

Wes Byer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Grady Johnson and Tyler Haring did most of the damage at the plate: Johnson went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and two RBI, while Haring went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits Haring has posted since back in April. Ashton Crank was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

St. Michael-Albertville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

St. Michael-Albertville's record now sits at 12-3. As for Sartell-St. Stephen, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Looking ahead, St. Michael-Albertville will venture away from home to square off against Hopkins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Knights 3.1, the Royals 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Sartell-St. Stephen, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Anoka at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
