Preview: Millard West Wildcats vs. Omaha Westside Warriors
Millard West is 2-8 against Omaha Westside since February of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Millard West Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Omaha Westside Warriors at 7:15 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Millard West pushed their score all the way to 55 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Lincoln Southwest by a score of 57-55. Millard West has struggled against Lincoln Southwest recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Millard West had strong showings from Cooper Fortune, who scored 21 points, and Jordan Gassen, who scored 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Fortune has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Omaha Westside faced Millard North in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Omaha Westside's rough 76-56 defeat to Millard North on Tuesday might stick with them for a while. The matchup was a close 32-31 at the break, but unfortunately for Omaha Westside it sure didn't stay that way.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Caleb Benning, who scored 14 points. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kevin Stubblefield, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
Millard West's loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Omaha Westside, their loss dropped their record down to 11-4.
Millard West suffered a grim 86-61 defeat to Omaha Westside in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Millard West was down 45-24.
