The Carolina Academy Bobcats will venture away from home to square off against the Calhoun Academy Cavaliers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Carolina Academy has given up an average of 28 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Carolina Academy is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight games on Friday. They were beaten by Williamsburg Academy 33-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Bobcats were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Calhoun Academy). They breezed past Orangeburg Prep to the tune of 51-12 last Friday. Considering the Cavaliers have won four contests by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Carolina Academy better keep an eye on Colt Layton. He was instrumental in Calhoun Academy's win, rushing for 225 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. Thanks to that big game, Layton is now up to 15 rushing touchdowns on the season.
Calhoun Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 311 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 221 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Calhoun Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Dayton Birkland and Cael Parler. Another thorn in Orangeburg Prep's side was C-Rob Thornton, who picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made six total tackles.
Calhoun Academy's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.8 points over those games. As for Carolina Academy, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Carolina Academy strolled past Calhoun Academy in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a score of 35-20. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bobcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
