Basketball Recap: Sutton Cockrell and Chris Guasp Secure Win for Modoc

Modoc won the last time they faced Tulelake and things went their way on Saturday too. The Modoc Braves came out on top against the Tulelake Honkers by a score of 54-42. The Braves pushed the score to 46-26 by the end of the third, a deficit the Honkers cut but never quite recovered from.

Modoc was led to victory by Chris Guasp and Sutton Cockrell. Guasp went 7 of 14 on his way to 18 points, while Cockrell went 6 for 8 on his way to 12 points and six rebounds. Guasp has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Nash McCulley was another key player, putting up two points along with 11 boards and four blocks.

Modoc smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Modoc now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Tulelake, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-9.

Modoc will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Anderson at 5:00 p.m. on January 9, 2025. Tulelake will also get a bit of a break before their next match: they'll face off against Dunsmuir at 6:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
