Football Recap: Estero Wildcats vs. Ida Baker Bulldogs
Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Estero). They took their game at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 53-20 win over the Ida Baker Bulldogs. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 44-13.
Estero found their leader in underclassman Maddox Stewart, who threw for 261 yards and five touchdowns on only 19 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Those five passing touchdowns set a new season-high mark for him. Owen Maurizi was Stewart's top target, picking up 120 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Estero's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged three passes before it was all said and done. It was truly a group effort as Landen Beau Brown, Martino Pecoraro, and Maurizi picked up one apiece.
Despite the loss, Ida Baker still got an impressive performance from Waylon Squires, who threw for 182 yards and two touchdowns.
The victory got Estero back to even at 2-2. As for Ida Baker, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Estero will venture away from home to face off against Cape Coral at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Ida Baker, they are taking a road trip to square off against Sarasota at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
