Softball Preview: Murray County Indians vs. Union County Panthers

The Murray County Indians will head out to square off against the Union County Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Murray County finally turned things around against North Cobb Christian on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 victory over the Eagles. While the Indians didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Alyssa Barnett was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Barnett was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with a double.

In other batting news, Lanie Spence was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Blakelee Ledford, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-5.

Murray County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved they're hit total in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Union County beat Ringgold 5-2 on Thursday.

Murray County's record now sits at 7-5. As for Union County, the win also got them back to even at 8-8.

Murray County couldn't quite finish off Union County when the teams last played back in October of 2022 and fell 10-8. Can Murray County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
