Basketball Recap: Joppa-Maple Grove Falls Despite Big Games from Abigail Lang and Kali Short

Joppa-Maple Grove was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 18th straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 50-40 to Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton. If the Rangers were looking for revenge after losing 0-0 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Kali Short and Abigail Lang certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Short posted 18 points along with six boards and three steals, while Lang went 6 of 15 en route to 12 points and seven rebounds. Short is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylea Anderson, who had six points in addition to 15 rebounds and three steals.

Joppa-Maple Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton, they moved to 2-6 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Joppa-Maple Grove and St. Mary will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. As for Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Shawnee at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Shawnee will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton surely won't give up without a fight.
