Basketball Game Preview: Gordon-Rushville Mustangs vs. Mitchell Tigers

Gordon-Rushville and Mitchell are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Gordon-Rushville Mustangs will square off against the Mitchell Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Gordon-Rushville is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game back in December of 2024. They took a blow against Kimball, falling 77-21. The game marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Mitchell's good fortune finally ran out last Thursday. They came up short against Perkins County, falling 68-47. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 127th, while the Plainsmen are ranked 33rd).

Despite the loss, Mitchell saw an underclassman step up: sophomore London Beck posted seven points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Uriel Jimenez, who put up eight points.

Gordon-Rushville's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Mitchell, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-4.

Gordon-Rushville took a serious blow against Mitchell in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 72-26. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Mitchell's Kreed Chaney, who went 7 of 10 on his way to 18 points. Now that Gordon-Rushville knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
