Basketball Recap: Valdosta Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Jabarri Williams and Brandon Brown

On Friday, the Valdosta Wildcats came up short against the Riverwood Raiders and fell 80-72. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (66), the Wildcats still had to take the loss.

Valdosta's loss came despite strong showings from Brandon Brown and Jabarri Williams. Brown went 9 for 14 on his way to 25 points and three steals, while Williams went 8 of 17 on his way to 23 points in addition to six assists and three steals. The contest was Brown's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleb Johnson, who posted four points and 12 rebounds.

Jr Leonard was his usual excellent self, going 13 of 24 on his way to 48 points in addition to five assists and five boards for Riverwood. That makes it six consecutive games in which Leonard has scored at least a third of Riverwood's points. Another player making a difference was Myles Nobles, who put up 12 points and three steals.

Valdosta's loss dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Riverwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.

Valdosta didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 78-56 defeat against Blythewood on the 28th. As for Riverwood, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 66-55 loss against Walker on the 28th.
