Basketball Recap: Fort Calhoun Pioneers vs. Centura Centurions
After flying high against David City two weeks ago, Fort Calhoun came back down to earth. The Fort Calhoun Pioneers took a 51-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Centura Centurions. The Pioneers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Centurions apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Despite the loss, Fort Calhoun still got an impressive performance from Kade Foy, who posted 18 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Welchert, who put up five points and three steals.
Barrett Fries was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 15 rebounds for Centura. With that strong performance, Fries is now averaging an impressive 8.4 boards per game. Zavery Jensen was another key player, putting up six points.
Fort Calhoun has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for Centura, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Fort Calhoun wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 57-53 loss against Howells-Dodge on the 4th. As for Centura, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 43-35 victory against Sandy Creek on the 4th.
