The Boston Latin Academy Dragons will head out to challenge the Masconomet Regional Chieftains at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Boston Latin Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
While Boston Latin Academy's victory against Boston Latin wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Dragons sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Wolfpack on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Dragons have posted since April 17, 2024.
Maddie Andrade was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Maddie Sousa also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Masconomet Regional). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Salem a 15-0 shutout on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Chieftains in their matchups with the Witches: they've now won five in a row.
Masconomet Regional let Logan Schaap and Sabrina Caferelli run wild. Schaap went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run, while Caferelli went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlotte Leiss, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.
Masconomet Regional kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
The victory made it two in a row for Boston Latin Academy and bumps their season record up to 5-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Masconomet Regional, their record is now 3-5.
Masconomet Regional's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Boston Latin Academy has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Masconomet Regional, though, as they've been averaging 9.9 hits. Given Boston Latin Academy's sizable advantage in that area, the Chieftains will need to find a way to close that gap.
Boston Latin Academy suffered a grim 17-5 defeat to Masconomet Regional when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Can the Dragons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
