Baseball Game Preview: Groesbeck Goats vs. Mexia Black Cats

The Groesbeck Goats will head out to take on the Mexia Black Cats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Groesbeck's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Mexia's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Groesbeck is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Westwood just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 6-5.

Nick Sanchez was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He also put up a triple, which was his first of the season.

Meanwhile, Mexia made easy work of Elkhart on Tuesday and carried off a 17-7 win. Considering the Black Cats have won seven matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Adriano Mendoza was a standout: he scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Anthony Schaff, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Mexia kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elkhart only managed four hits.

The victory made it two in a row for Mexia and bumps their season record up to 8-10. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Groesbeck, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7-1.

Groesbeck couldn't quite get it done against Mexia when the teams last played back in March as they fell 5-2. Can the Goats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
