Baseball Recap: Smoky Hill Takes a Loss

Smoky Hill extended their losing streak to five on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 6-15 in the process. They came up short against the Grandview Wolves, falling 11-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-0 on Thursday.

Smoky Hill saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anthony Aragonez-Vasquez, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Grandview, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 18-3. Considering they have won ten matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

On Grandview's side, Justin Dean made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Dean has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Chase Chapman was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Kyle Cacciavillani was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Smoky Hill has already played their next game, an 8-4 defeat against Doherty on the 3rd. As for Grandview, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 3-2 victory against Cherry Creek on the 9th.
